How to Insert Geometric Shapes into Google Sheets

Did you know that you can add geometric shapes you your Google Sheets? Shapes such as ◈, ●, or ◥ can be used to highlight important data or make your spreadsheets more visually appealing.

You can insert geometric shapes into Google Sheets using one of the three methods discussed below. Use the method that works best in your spreadsheet.

Use the CHAR Function

You can insert shapes using a function called CHAR. To do this, first find the Unicode decimal code for the shape you want in the table at the end of this article. Then, use that code as the argument in the CHAR function. Let’s say you want to insert a square with rounded corners. Use the following code:

=CHAR(9634) 

This formula, as seen in the image above, inserts the symbol called “WHITE SQUARE WITH ROUNDED CORNERS” into the spreadsheet cell.

Copy and Paste

You can find the symbol you want in the table below, copy the shape, and paste it into your spreadsheet.

Use an Add-On
