Basic Usage
Using the add-on for multi-stop route calculation is simple.
- Start by telling the add-on where the locations are in your spreadsheet
- Designate miles or kilometers and the transit type
- Click run

Google Maps plans at most 25 stops per request, so RouteTally splits a longer list into batches of 25 that join end to end, and writes one table with a total, plus a Google Maps link for each batch. Premium also optimizes the stop order, makes a QR code and a map image, and adds stop durations.
You can create 1,000 routes per day with a non-Paid Google account and 10,000 per day with a paid account.

What is RouteTally? RouteTally is a Google Sheets add-on that automates the process of calculating distances and travel times for routes with multiple destinations. It eliminates the need to copy-paste addresses into Google Maps manually by bringing the data directly into your spreadsheet.
Do I need a Google Maps API Key? No. RouteTally works out of the box. You do not need to set up a Google Cloud account or manage complex API keys. Once the add-on is installed, you are ready to start calculating routes.
Is RouteTally free to use? Yes! The free version calculates multi-stop routes of up to 10 stops, lets you choose transit modes, and generates Google Maps links. Routes of up to 100 stops, route optimization, QR codes, and embedded map images require a Premium subscription.
Usage & Limitations
How many stops can I add to a single route? Free: up to 10 stops per route. Premium: up to 100 stops in one run. Google Maps plans at most 25 stops per request, so for a list longer than 25 RouteTally splits the route into batches of 25 that join end to end, and puts everything in one table.
What does a route with more than 25 stops look like? You get one new tab with a single table and one total. A Batch column says which batch each leg belongs to, and every batch has its own Google Maps link (and its own QR code and map, if you ticked them). Batch 2 starts where batch 1 ends. Can RouteTally find the fastest order for my stops? Yes. With a Premium subscription, you can use the “Optimize stop order” feature. This automatically reorders your destinations to ensure you are taking the most efficient path, saving you time and fuel. On routes of more than 25 stops it works within each batch of 25.
Does it support different modes of transport? Yes. You can toggle between Driving, Walking, Bicycling, and Public Transit directly within the add-on sidebar. Public Transit works for a route with just a start and a destination, because Google does not plan transit routes with stops in between; use Driving, Walking or Bicycling for a multi-stop route.
What is the daily limit for calculations? Limits are set by Google:
- Standard Google Accounts: 1,000 requests per day.
- Paid Google Workspace Accounts: 10,000 requests per day.

How do I upgrade to the Premium tier? You can subscribe for $93/year (saves $15 over the monthly plan) or $9/month directly through the checkout link or via the “Upgrade” button inside the add-on. Please ensure you use the same email address associated with your Google account.
How do I use the route on my phone? The Premium tier includes a QR Code generator. Simply scan the code on your screen with your smartphone to instantly open the optimized route in the Google Maps mobile app for turn-by-turn navigation.
Can I cancel my subscription at any time? Yes. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through our Subscriber Portal. Your premium features will remain active until the end of your current billing cycle.
